What I mean is that you should use the maximum compression level when saving your .png files, or save it as a .jpg file with about 85% quality. Also, reduce the number of unnecessary colors using indexing (in GIMP, it’s under Image -> Mode -> Indexed. Don’t use dithering). These things will cut down file size drastically.
Gñam el indexado que mencionas hace que las imágenes con muchos degradados o texturas (como Metal espejo) estos se vean bastante marcados. Caso contrario con las imágenes que tienen unos cuantos colores o formas simples.
Aunque guardarlo a escala de grises me parece una mejor idea
Indeed, for this particular image, indexing severly degrades quality. For others, there is no loss of quality whatsoever.
I also notice that the grayscale wallpaper’s preview appears odd. One way around this problem is to upload a thumbnail picture with RGB colors, and hyperlink that to the actual full-size picture.
Very good! I like it even better than the first metal Trisquel background.
But could you please compress it a bit, or save it as a .jpg? 2.5 megabytes is wasteful.

Pruebe a escalarlo con Gimp, ya que en jpg viene pesando 1,1 Mb :S
A 800×600 (que es mi resolución real), pesa unos 828 K en png.

1600×1200 is always a good resolution, BTW.
